Knoxville Spanish AcademyKnoxville is the third-largest city in Tennessee, and the original capital of the state, which it served as until 1819. Among the various interesting and important aspects of the city, it is host to the main campus of the University of Tennessee. Knoxville has a total population of over 175,000 residents, based on 2006 U.S. Census data. That diverse population is composed of approximately three percent Latino and Hispanic residents, or 5,252 residents. Tennessee has one of the largest populations of Latin American residents of all the states in the union. In the city of Knoxville, those of Hispanic or Latino origins will find a diverse number of cultural events, art, media, and restaurants that borrow a great deal from Latin heritage. The Knoxville Hispanic Heritage Festival and Hola! Festival are yearly celebrations of Hispanic culture in the area, Knoxville art exhibits often feature Latin-American-derived exhibitions, and for a more casual approach to appreciating the culture, there are multiple Knoxville Mexican restaurant options. Knoxville’s diversity and deeply-rooted Hispanic traditions are just two of the reasons children will benefit from learning the Spanish language and more about Spanish-speaking culture.
